Discovering Your Calling Part 1: Questions that lead to Realization

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July holiday and is ready to get back rolling with whatever you have going on for the rest of the summer.

I've decided to write a series of three blog posts over the next few weeks in a series I would like to title "Discovering Your Calling" which will deal with three specific topics: Questions that lead to Realization, The Inevitable Criticism and Priority: You. These topics are subject to change as I continue to create and think of content for this series. Let's jump in to the first topic: Questions that lead to Realization.

I'd like to pose a very simple question: What is your gift? As in, what do you feel God has blessed you to better than anyone else? This is a question that many people know the answer to, however, there are some out there that may still be on the fence of truly discovering what they were put on Earth for. I can speak for college students everywhere who, at some point has struggled to answer this question. I'd like to help them and everyone else out with questions that I believe will get your mind thinking about that gift.

1. Are you willing to get uncomfortable and explore?
It's been said plenty of times that not much good comes from being in your comfort zone. And it's somewhat true. Only through going through change will you experience growth. You don't work hard to stay the same, that's pointless, you either get better or worse. I understand that's it's a struggle to get out of your comfort zone because I have been there. But, you can't be afraid to take a leap of faith. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power of love and a sound mind." People may look at you strange and say, hey, why are you doing that? That's a question we will address in the next blog post titled, "The Inevitable Criticism". One of the traits that I've studied and seen what the successful ones and greats do and it's this - they take risks, and they're better off because of it. You don't have to have a lot of resources to grow. What you need is an open mind and heart and that's where I believe you will begin to step out of your comfort zone and you will begin to have more confidence in yourself and truly living the MORE abundant LIFE that God has in store for you.

2. Reach out - have you built the RIGHT relationships?
As I have said in other blog posts, and I will continue to say in future blog posts, if you're going to get anywhere in life, you need to build healthy and strong relationships with people who have similar goals as you do. Don't be a "know-it-all" and act like you don't need any help. This is something that I have had to overcome in the past during my time at Spartanburg Methodist College and it's something that I am getting over now. Now, for some of you, maybe you need to re-evaluate who you have current relationships with. It's important to understand that not everyone has the same or similar goals and aspirations as you do, and that's good in a sense because it sure would be a boring world if we all thought and did the same thing. That's what makes our country a unique and a diverse civilization. However, it can also be bad if you have relationships with people that don't have any goals or aspirations, and you need to distance yourself from those people because they will suck you in with them if you don't. Remember, relationships can make or break you. The decision is up to you who you choose to surround yourself with.

3. Are you willing to be patient and LISTEN?
There is no overnight success or secrets where you will just wake up and discover your calling. Therefore, patience is a virtue. Listen, it's ok not to have all the answers to all of life's questions - this is why you can NEVER stop learning. Don't be afraid to hear and understand the perspectives of other people and allow yourself to become simple-minded, where unfortunately, we are seeing a lot more of those kind of people in our society today. However, if you stay patient, I believe things will come together in due time and I believe when the time is right, God will reveal what he truly wants for you to do on this Earth.

Again, I want to thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and I hope you have enjoyed this first installment of this series and I hope I've wrote something that can help you further discover the calling in your life. I would invite you to share this and let me know of any comments or suggestions you have as we move forward on my Twitter and Instagram (1bstockdale) and Facebook (Brandon Stockdale). I look forward to releasing Part Two of this series entitled "The Inevitable Criticism".

Til next time, More Blessings and More Life to you all
