Building Something Great

Anything you want in this life can be attained with the right mindset and a positive approach and with God's help, all things are possible! Don't let anyone ever tell you can't do something. My time at Spartanburg Methodist College was great and I truly enjoyed the two years I spent there. I excelled at a high level with a lot of hard work, effort and through the relationships built over time.

For those of you that have followed me closely for any significant amount of time, you may have seen a hashtag on my social media accounts with #TheProcess on it. Some of you may wonder what exactly it is and where it came from. The inspiration for me comes from two guys in particular, Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban, who has won numerous national championships and has maintained a standard of excellence during his time at the University of Alabama. As much as I love the Tigers, I have admired the way his teams play and how they are committed to playing as as a unit and they are all committed to one common goal. The other inspiration is former Clemson linebacker Brandon Maye. He was an All-American as a freshman in 2008 by the Football Writers of America. However, what stood out to me was that he was a 3X ACC Academic Team Member and graduated from Clemson with Cum Laude honors. During my time at SMC, he would upload motivational videos to YouTube, on a weekly basis which really kept me hungry and gave me something to think about throughout the week and I thank God for Brandon. Check his videos out when you get a chance. (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheBrandonMayeFounda)

Now, you're probably wondering with everything I just mentioned, what does that have to do with this blog or your time at SMC? The answer is this: I was able to learn through these two individuals' mindsets and I saw their drive to do whatever it takes to be successful. I used what I learned to frame my mindset and approach to how I was going to be successful at SMC, which I will go into more detail on another post and how I plan to continue to strive for new heights as I am now getting ready to head to Clemson in August. I believed it was also important to have the right support system and individuals around you as I'm sure Brandon Maye and Nick Saban did as part of the process. I had individuals at SMC that I was able to surround myself with, specifically (yes, I'm going to brag on them for a second), Dr. Jonathan Keisler, professor of Economics, Dr. Kirk Hansen, professor of History, Dr. Litasha Dennis, professor of English, Dr. Cole Cheek, professor of Anthropology and History, Mr. Ottis Allen, my Academic Advisor during my time at SMC and the fine folks in the Marie Blair Burgess Library. Now, make no doubt, all of the family at SMC (and all of my family and friends back at home) were committed to the process and helping me get to where I am now.

To sum up everything, I'm trying say that in order to be successful, commitment is imperative. You can dream but you have to have a plan of action and surround yourself with people who are going to believe in your vision. We all have faith that we can accomplish our goals in life but the problem many times is we are not willing to put in the work. James 2:14 (KJV) asks the question, "What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith but does not have works? can faith save him?" Verse 17 goes on to say, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." In today's society, we live in world where unfortunately everybody wants things handed to them and that simply won't work if you are trying to accomplish a goal. I challenge you to wake up each and everyday with a mindset and drive that screams, "I will NOT be defeated." The road to success is not easy, but I promise you that if you stay committed to the process, my beautiful people, you will see the fruits of your labor come to fruition and God will bless you for your faithfulness.

Til next time, More Life and More Blessings to you all
Brandon
